Out for a sunset ride in the Port Lands, Toronto, ON
About Todd Race
Who Am I? What makes me tick?
Although I now live in Toronto I grew up in Edmonton, not far from what is now West Edmonton Mall. I attended a small high school called Old Scona Academic. It was fun to be part of the first freshman class of fewer than 70 students – a brand new concept in an old historic building. Our carpeted gym on the third floor helped make it a unique experience. And I personally found it rewarding to know that my father went to school in the same building half a century earlier.
Then in the early ’90s I had the opportunity of a lifetime, volunteering with an NGO called Canadian Crossroads International (now called Crossroads International). I spent six months on placement in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, before travelling for a year across South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Truly a life changing experience.
And when I’m not writing copy, I like to be out riding my bike or working to make it easier for all of us to ride. I have been volunteering with Cycle Toronto for a few years now and have enjoyed the progress we have made, especially in 2020. I also participated in a ride around Lake Ontario a few years ago with an amazing organization called 7 Days in May. This incredible group raises money for pancreatic cancer research, one of the deadliest and most virulent varieties that doesn’t get nearly as much attention or funding as it deserves.
